This 80's TV show features Bo and Luke Duke and their now famous car the "General Lee". Along with Cousin Daisy Duke and Uncle Jesse, they have a running battle with the police of Hazzard County, namely Boss Hogg and Sheriff Coltrane.

TV Show Plot For Dukes of Hazzard, The

The 80's TV series Dukes of Hazzard is set in the rural community of Hazzard. The Duke family had a history of being moonshiners, but when cousins Bo and Luke were captured; they were spared prison on the condition that they give up moon shining for good.

The corrupt town leader Boss Hogg and his dimwitted flunky Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane were always scheming to defraud the locals. The Dukes tried to help out their friends and neighbors in distress and at the same time avoid being jailed by the Hogg and his associates.

During the 5th season, Tom Wopat and John Schneider who play Luke and Bo had a contract dispute with producers, and were written off the series. Cousins Coy and Vance came to stay with Uncle Jesse and help him and Daisy in their battles with boss Hogg, while Luke and Bo joined the NASCAR circuit.

The Dukes of Hazzard series ran on NBC from 1979 to 1985 for a total of 147 episodes.

The famous Dukes of Hazzard car "General Lee" is a 1969 Dodge Charger. A total of 309 "General Lee" cars were used during filming of the series.

The Dukes of Hazzard series was based loosely on the 1974 movie "Moon Runners." The movie included the characters named Uncle Jesse, Cooter, and Waylon Jennings as the Balladeer. The main characters, Bobby Lee Hag and Grady even had a racing stock car.

Dennis Quaid and Gerald McRaney were considered for the role of Luke before Tom Wopat was chosen.
